A Virginia man who thought he was getting a steal on a new car ended up going to jail after the salesperson called the cops to claim that he'd actually stolen the thing.
Danny Sawyer inked a deal to buy a Chevy Traverse for about $5600 less than the list price because of a math mistake on the part of the salesperson, who realized the mistake and tried to get him to tear up the contract and sign a new one for the correct, higher price.
When Sawyer declined to cough up the extra dough, the dealership called police and reported that Sawyer had stolen the vehicle – leading to him spending four hours behind bars.
The dealer offered an apology and a deal to sell the car for the lower price, but Sawyer made a counter-offer – namely a $2 million lawsuit against the company (AutoBlog)
