Space Agencies Want To Crash A Spacecraft Into An Asteroid!

Scientists are working with some space agencies to figure out a way to crash a spacecraft into an asteroid to see if it would be enough to protect Earth from an impact. NASA is working with the European Space Agency to blast their Double Asteroid Redirection Test -- or DART -- spacecraft directly into an asteroid. The DART spacecraft will hit the asteroid at a speed of over 14,000 miles per hour and we’ll see if the collision is enough to make a difference if we’re ever in the path of one of these things. (Technology Review) A pic of the DART is shown below (we think)
